In the first incident, Kanagaraj, who runs a vegetable shop in Mandaveli market, was on his way to Koyambedu market complex to buy stock when he was intercepted by a group of drunk men near Music Academy on TTK Road around 4 am. They threatened Kanagaraj at knifepoint and robbed him of Rs 17,000 before fleeing the spot. Based on his complaint, the Mylapore police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the robbers.
The second victim was an MTC conductor, who was attacked by a bike-borne duo with a knife when he refused to part with his gold chain. The incident took place around 3.30 am when Karthikeyan (49), a crew member attached to Ennore MTC depot, was waiting to begin his morning shift from Ennore. Two men on a bike approached him and tried to snatch his chain.
When he tried to resist them, they attacked him with a knife and fled the scene. He suffered injuries on the hand and passers-by rushed him to a nearby hospital. Based on his complaint, the Aminjikarai police have registered a case and are trying to ascertain the identity of the offenders with the help of CCTV camera footage.
In a third incident, a two-member gang was secured by the public when they tried to rob a man, and handed them over to the Abiramapuram police.
The victim, Manikandaprabu, was returning home when he was intercepted by the duo near Moopanar flyover. They hit him with a helmet and attempted to snatch his mobile phone and wallet.
Noticing the incident, passersby came to his rescue and caught hold of the duo, identified as Vigneshwaran and Abbas.
They were handed over to the local police, who have booked and remanded them in judicial custody.
