Sampath Kumar back in force
G Sampath Kumar, the officer who detected the IPL betting scam in 2013 and was later placed under suspension for talking to media and allegedly taking bribe from bookies, has been asked to take charge as Commandant, Tamil Nadu Special Police battalion in Veerapuram near Avadi. The officer, then functioning as Q Branch SP, had stumbled up on the betting racket. He had opened a can of worms, which later led to arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan, the owner of Chennai Super Kings, and Chennai hotelier Vikram Agarwal by Mumbai Police. The CBCID probe into the scam is still underway. Sampath Kumar was placed under suspension in 2014, which was revoked in March this year after four years.
