The accused, Jahangir Hussain (24), is working as a cook in the nearby ladies’ hostel and is a friend of the victim’s husband.
In her complaint, the woman said Hussain would often accompany her husband to their home. When he came on Wednesday, the victim’s husband, a security guard, was away at work. After entering the house in the guise of seeking water, he allegedly raped her.
Hussain was arrested by Semmanchery police on Thursday following her complaint and was remanded in judicial custody. The woman had come to Chennai after their marriage in last August. They had shifted to the house in Sholinganallur only last month, police said.
