As we sit for a conversation with Ganesh and Nisha, the energy and warmth the lovely couple exude is infectious. “It doesn’t feel like we’ve been married for two years now. We’re still on an extended honeymoon period, or rather like two young kids who are truly, madly and deeply in love,” begins Nisha, who is a noted actress on TV. “It has only become better I’d say,” concurs Ganesh. Recalling his “filmi” proposal to Nisha, Ganesh gushes, “It was Christmas season and we were driving down ECR whe we spotted a beautiful church. It was done up so beautifully with decorations and the whole atmosphere was very divine.
We were on our knees praying and that’s when it struck me that it was the perfect moment to propose. Luckily for me, she said yes without the blink of an eye. Soon after, in what seemed like a divine intervention of sorts, the altar boys came in to get the premises set up for mass and they were singing Hallelujah! It was like the whole universe had conspired to bring us together.”
The actors, who are seen as an ideal couple, credit their friendship for their refreshing chemistry. “We started off as being friends. Marriage has only made our friendship deeper,” says Ganesh. “It’s also because we embrace and celebrate our differences. Neither of us has ever tried to change the other,” says Nisha.
“But I wish Ganesh planned a little less and went with the flow. So, both of us love travelling and I, being a spontaneous person, decide on a whim. But Ganesh has to know everything, from what food is available to the weather, what activities we’re going to be doing.. He basically wants to know the entire encyclopaedia of that place,” laughs Nisha. Butting in, Ganesh, who was one of the most popular contestants on Bigg Boss Tamil, says, “It is this humour that has rubbed off on me. But hey, my proposal was spontaneous.”
Personal life apart, the two also take keen interest in their respective professional lives. “One of the many promises I made when I married Nisha was that I’d be the wind beneath her wings and support her in whatever way I can. I’m so happy about what she’s achieved as an actress and anchor,” muses Ganesh. “It’s important for a woman to have this kind of encouragement,” adds Nisha.
For the nonce though, they say, “We’re all so occupied with our own lives that we forget to acknowledge the people who love us.
Time is the best gift you can give someone, so make that conscious effort. While it’s important to retain your individuality, there are certain things in life that need to be shared with someone. You need to depend on someone because if it were possible for one to be fully self-sufficient, you don’t require companionship or marriage or love. It is this inter-dependability that makes love special.”
