The young activist speaks about her recent experience of being a chief guest at Velammal Bodhi Campus, Kolapakkam, where she delivered a speech ‘Love food, hate waste’, to a gathering of over 700 people.
What inspired you to take up this cause?
Once, I saw one of my seniors from school throwing away her food because she wasn’t hungry. I felt bad because so many people go hungry every day. That’s when I decided to spread awareness on food wastage wherever I go. In my speech ‘Love food, hate waste’, I spoke about how we can help those who go hungry by making extra food in our homes and distributing it to them.

I’m also part of the Chennai Food Bank. As part of the same, my mother and I cook food every Thursday and distribute it to the homeless in our locality. I’ve been doing this for eight months now. We also recently fed more than 3,000 differently abled. We also collect excess food from weddings and functions. I want to encourage people to do the same until we end hunger completely and become a nation of zero food wastage.
