Ameeth Thomas (37), Singer-songwriter
Istarted to sing when I was in school. My parents sing in church, but since I have never been a fan of religious institutions, I did not start from there. I mainly started singing in school as a way to skip classes. Then, after college, I began performing all over the city. But I quit soon after. I was not happy after a point. But, I had to consider the financial aspect and I had to make money. Though I was earning a lot of money, I was not happy. Hence, I quit for two years. During those two years, since I had good contacts at bars and pubs in the city, I worked as a manager. I was there every night and networked with other places. But, two years later, I wanted to start singling again. So, I formed a band. It is called Junkyard Groove. While we have had rough patches, with people leaving for many reasons, I think we have settled down to an extent now. We had a record deal at one point of time, but then, that backfired on us. But I was not going to let it stop me so we launched a bootleg version. While those financial restraints are still there, I chose not to bother about it too much. I am making music I like and performing as much as possible with my bandmates. In the end, that is all that matters. If money comes, let it come.
