Residents of Yeshwant Nagar in Madambakkam complain that garbage is being dumped in a vacant plot in the area. While stray animal spreading the garbage and hygiene itself are bothering the residents, some of them burn the piles of the garbage when conservancy workers fail to clear it regularly.
Residents complained that there is no allocated space to dispose of garbage. That is why the waste is being dumped in the land. They claim that there has been an increased number of viral fevers among the residents.
“We don’t have garbage bins in our locality. The situation has been son for the past year, though we had lodged several complaints,” said Leela V, another resident.
“After visiting the corporation office many times, officials visited the area a few months ago and promised to clean the space and place a garbage bin, too,” she added.
Residents said that the plot has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. “We can’t keep the windows and doors of our houses open because of mosquitoes and also the stench of garbage,” said another resident.
They also said that it is been three years since the owner of the plot in question visited the place. Though the residents have tried to reach them, there has been no response from them.
When contacted, a corporation official said that they would take action soon.
