Rodrigue Allen (23), Signage printer
After completing my higher education in media studies, I started looking after my father’s business of signage printing and advertisement board printing. I decided to support my father in his business instead of pursuing a media job because my parents are growing old. My friends and I work together in designing signage and advertisements. I have got into the routine of the job, becoming accustomed to the nature of the work in printing. I also learnt graphic designing. But after the new regulations on banners and hoardings came about, the business has become very dull in the city. Now, people are hesitating to give orders for advertisements and signage. There are various problems encountered in our work, as many of the customers do not make payment on time. There are times when I have to wait for the payments to meet the immediate financial needs. The work is good during festivals and other special occasions, but the earnings are not always sufficient. So, this is not my first choice as a career.
