I hail from Coimbatore and came to the city for work after I completed my school education. I started working as an apprentice at a printing company. I could not continue my studies as my mother passed away when I was in school and my elder sister had to work to afford my education. I was married off at an early age and I had to stop working. But, I did not like being jobless and wanted to support my family financially.
I started a self-help group along with other women in Perambur to set up a tiffin centre and supplied food for a few companies. Then, I had shift to Vepery and started working in a hotel. A few other women also joined me here. There are many women like us who don’t have employment after a certain age and I started to encourage such people to find jobs. I started to work in a hotel as it suited my interests. I am happy with my work and I think that no one should give up an opportunity to be financially independent.
