NEET has been a topic of debate in Tamil Nadu ever since it was adopted and the performance of government school students in the NEET has been a problem as they have not been faring well in the past few years.
The state rank list to grant admissions to MBBS/BDS courses was released by the Health department revealed that none of the government school students made it to the top 20 in the list.
When this reporter brought this matter up with a senior official at the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), he said that the figures have improved this year. On being asked to share the details on the number of government school students who made it to the rank list, the official assured of providing the details, but did not respond properly to other questions and said that the details of the rank holding students were yet to be “extracted from the database”.
It is surprising that when other details such as the total number of applications and other details related to the students were shared, only information on rank holders from the government schools were yet to be “extracted from the database”.
