A road work that was expected to bring much-needed respite from a bumpy and pothole-ridden stretch for residents of Kasthurbai Colony 4th Street, Kannigapuram, had the opposite result with an increase in road height. The road became a riskier stretch as a result.
After the road works stopped, the neighbours on the adjoining street, where the roadworks had just begun, complained that they were affected by the disruption of the project. “We even told the engineer that they can continue there, but we want the road height to be reversed.”
Divakar, another resident, alleged that the works were not implemented according to the protocol. “They did not have a work order when we approached them. The person who claimed to be from the Greater Chennai Corporation was under the influence of as well,” he pointed out.
The Regional Deputy Commissioner for central zone, Subodh Kumar, said that the issue will be addressed immediately, adding that there were complaints about another road work violating the same MHC order on milling.
