What attracted the ire of the netizens was a recent post by the official handle of the BJP that DMK president MK Stalin had announced that a port would be constructed in Tirupur – a landlocked district in western Tamil Nadu. The post had the name and logo of a Tamil news channel to make it look authentic.
But after it attracted attention online, the news channel responded to the tweet immediately and informing that they did not carry such news. The tweet, it stressed, was fake news.
The saffron party’s official handle removed the tweet immediately. But by then, the Twitterati had taken screenshots of the tweet. It was widely circulated on social media, with comments that the BJP had not learnt lessons from the past.
This was followed by another instance where a State leader of the party posted pictures of River Ganga looking clean. The leader posted two pictures of Ganga and said that the river that was dirty during Congress rule was cleaned completely under BJP. But in reality, this was another fake photograph, that led to the leader being trolled by Twitterati.
Many commented that the Lotus – the party’s symbol – would never bloom in the State if it continued to manipulate facts like this.
