While signboards play a vital role in almost all the places, a board that was damaged two years ago when cyclone Vardah lashed the city, is yet to be replaced in Sundar Nagar. The members of the Association in the area have brought it to the notice of the authorities with no success.
Stating that commuters, who visit the locality find it difficult to locate the place without the board, Swathi N, another resident, said, “We had reached a point where we had to give up on the authorities. However, we received a number of complaints and demands for a board and we are now planning to file complaints again.”
She further added that the residents of Sundar Nagar face other issues too. A barren land behind the sign board is now used as a garbage dumping place. “Though there is a dustbin placed adjacent to the land, people dump garbage in the open. It is assumed that people also use the land to consume alcohol as empty bottles were found on the land.”
Urging the Corporation officials to address the issues, Aravind M, a member of the Residents’ Association, said, “Corporation workers do visit the locality, mainly during the festive season, to ask for donations. However, our demands are ignored.”
On contacting an officials from the corporation, he said, “We are not aware of any requests made by the residents for the board and land clean-up. We however, did receive a request to close the open drains, the work for the same was carried out recently. We will look into their other demands too.”
