Official telephones inside the press room in the Secretariat will soon be replaced with computers. All thanks to an imposter who pretended to be calling from the Chief Secretary’s office and retrieved sensitive information from an official. Later, as the information made its way out, the official had a lot of explaining to do with his seniors.
According to officials, it is not uncommon for imposters to enter the press room and use the official telephones.
Interestingly, the move was welcomed by a few senior journalists who agreed that with this move, not only would imposters reduce their visits to the press room, but also prevent journalists’ reputation from being harmed.
