Every year, December 3 is observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and every District Welfare Office organises a series of programmes to commemorate the day.
The function in question was presided over by a minister and a collector. After neither of them protested the inhumane treatment of the children, it proved to be the last straw for activists working for the welfare and empowerment of people with disabilities. The activists also claimed that the insensitive behaviour of officials has not gone down well with the kids’ parents and they want the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to take immediate action against those responsible.
