Now, the youngster is doing her bit to help underprivileged kids in the city celebrate Deepavali right. “Along with my bid to improve women’s fitness in town, I really wanted to do something to help the community. So, I am using my design brand, Enchant, that hand-prints t-shirt to give new clothes to underprivileged children all over Chennai during this festive season.
The initiative is titled PhodDenage and we have partnered with a few other sponsors/ brands to make this memorable, Hazarika said. She said the t-shirts are going to be with minimal designs and cheerful colours. “When all of us buy new clothes and things every year to celebrate, why should only these kids have a solemn day? Also, instead of picking our orphanages or homes where the kids are already taken care of, we have decided to go to the streets,” she added.
As of now, the team has designed more than 200 t-shirts and picked locations such as the Saidapet slum, Marina Beach Station, Royapuram and the Chepauk Station to distribute this to the kids there on the streets. “We have gathered volunteers who will come with us and help with the distribution. Along with the t-shirts, we will also give away food, crayons and colouring books for the kids. The Wealth Foundation, Pavitra Paapi, and Brandveda are also helping us to make this a reality.
