Stalin’s DMK has responded positively by embracing Vaiko’s offer of friendship. The foes-turned-friends have mended the bridges so much that Vaiko managed to get his one-time friend and DMK treasurer Duraimurugan to be a guest speaker at MDMK’s Mupperum Vizha, an annual event celebrated to mark the founding day of the party floated by Vaiko in protest of Stalin’s elevation in DMK a quarter of a century ago. The seasoned DMK treasurer did not disappoint his wannabe ally when he showered accolades on Vaiko, more than idolising on Periyar and Anna, the two other reasons the Mupperum Vizha was organised for.
The tearjerker from Duraimurugan dealt at length about the relationship between Vaiko and late Karunanidhi. “Vaiko is the only Tamilian who had the guts to stop a PM from exiting an event. My friend Vaiko has made sacrifices in politics without expecting any returns,” Duraimurugan said at the MDMK vizha, probably, a quid pro quo from the DMK, who was left pleasantly embarrassed by Vaiko who has ‘promised’ Karunanidhi that he would not rest till Stalin was made the chief minister of the state.
In pleasing each other the two-party leaders also gave enough fodder to netizens on social media who relished reposting the salvos the two parties had fired at each other earlier.
