In a recent incident, however, an MTC bus stopped even though it wasn’t crowded. The bus, being driven from Avadi to Koyambedu during the afternoon, stopped at a spot which had a number of trees.
Unaware of why the bus was stopped, the conductor rushed to the driver and when this scribe followed him, he found both of them grinning. On enquiring, the driver pointed to the leaves of trees fluttering in the breeze and said that he wanted to get some air, as beads of sweat ran down his face.
The bus had only a handful of passengers who — unlike usual times when commuters would scream at drivers for halting unnecessarily — breathed a sigh of relief as the breeze hit them.
“Let’s relax for a while,” said the conductor while the driver sipped some water, wiped his brow and then proceeded to continue the journey.
