Around four to five police vehicles were parked near an MTC depot and where several school students were seen waiting in the hot sun for a bus. When a vehicle driver was about to start one of the vehicles, a group of students went and requested him to drop them off at their school located around 1.5 km from the depot as they had to take their exams and were getting late.
At this, the driver got off the vehicle and took the matter up with his superior who allowed him to drop the students at their school. Interestingly, when the second vehicle was ready, another group of students occupied the seats with smiles.
Meanwhile, passengers who had been waiting at the depot for a long time were surprised. One of them asked this scribe why police vehicles were carrying students. When this scribe went to a police official and asked him the same question, he replied with a smile: “Students should not suffer at any cost.”
At a time when the police often receive flak for their activities, for this incident — that took place in a remote western suburb — the department certainly deserves a pat on the back.
