Several state Congress leaders are unhappy with the AICC not bring in a change of guard in the TNCC. Leaders like Khushbu Sundar, Peter Alphonse, Chellakumar and Vasantha Kumar were hopeful of the AICC announcing either of them as replacement to incumbent TNCC president Su Thirunavukkarasar.
For a while now, the leaders’ associates have been feeding gossip to media about an imminent guard change at the TNCC helm. In some instances, the leaders’ sidekicks had even run unofficial countdowns involving their media confidants for Thirunavukkarasar to be shown the door. Their efforts, however, were in vain. Thirunavukkarasar has worked hard enough in the last couple of months to cement his position in Sathyamurthy Bhavan, so much so that the TNCC president — who was usually identified as a person close to Sasikala clan — has of late built a good working relationship with the DMK. His renewed ties with the DMK was evident in the Cauvery rally in Cuddalore where Thirunavukkarasar had proclaimed that a government led by Stalin and Rahul Gandhi should be in place in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi respectively for the state to get Cauvery Management Board. The same Thirunavukkarasar had cautiously projecting Stalin as the future CM in many a rally in the past, much to the discomfort of the DMK.
