As part of the Madras Week Celebrations, Doshi Housing is launching ‘OMROMG Express’, a free air conditioned bus service for people employed on the IT corridor of OMR, and for those who are interested in knowing the historical importance of OMR.
The bus will start from Madhya Kailash to Sholinganallur with five stops – Tidel Park, SRP Tools, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam and Karapakkam. Four trips will be made from Madhya Kailash to Aavin Dairy in Sholinganallur. The trip will start at 9 30 am from Aavin Dairy.
The trips will be run seven days a week and on an hourly basis. This is open to non-IT employees also.
Talking about the initiative, historian V Sriram says, “In all the hype about the IT expressway, we have forgotten that OMR has been a knowledge centre of Chennai almost since the time of Independence. It has been a home to many low-profile centres. It also boasts of centuries-old history in some of the villages that it connects, all of which are now parts of Chennai.”
Marvelling at all the Madras Day initiatives, Pankaj R, who has moved to Chennai from Allahabad, says, “I came to the city three months back and didn’t have the time to explore the city. My office is on the stretch and I still haven’t got the chance to understand the relevance of this stretch. It is a good opportunity for me to know the city better.”
The bus will be operational for one month, from August 24 onwards.
