Dr Vasudha Prakash, Founder-director of V-Excel Educational Trust, was conferred the Princess Haya Award for Special Education in the Outstanding Management Category - Distinguished Board Member. She is the first Indian national to be selected for the award.
Vasudha has been chosen for the award, for her involvement, creative ideas implemented, improving operations and developing business relationships to support V-Excel Centre.
With an experience of close to three decades in the field, she has been instrumental in raising and increasing awareness of the need for resources for children with special needs. The V-Excel Educational Trust, which was started in 2001, now caters to around 450 children in Chennai and 4,400 in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu.
Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai instituted an award in 2008, to promote creativity, excellence and specialist expertise in the special needs sector. It has aimed to encourage the adoption of best practices in educating and rehabilitating persons with special needs, on a par with international standards.
