While most of the innovations worked and even managed to garner some media coverage, some like the BJP candidate Gangai Amaran had to be bite the dust.
Last week, Gangai Amaran along with other party leaders took a long ride on a boat in Kasimedu fishing harbour area to woo the fishermen for votes. But the problem with the campaign was that the timing was amiss by a few hours and there was practically no one, either in the sea or on the shore, for him to campaign. Interestingly, Gangai Amaran, who is also a popular music director, even sang ‘ Tharaimel Pirakkavaitthan ’ song from former Chief Minister MGR movie - Padagot ti, during this campaign with the rest of the team joining in the chorus. However, cadre were upset as there was no audience to appreciate their vocals.
Needless to say, the flopped high sea campaign started surfacing on social media and Gangai Amaran and BJP became a laughing stock of netizens. Some party cadre admitted that they had wasted time and energy as they saw only empty boats anchored on the shore. Though they waved to the people at a long distance away from the shore, none apparently responded. The campaign was so ineffective that some cadre mistook it for a joy ride and a break from the campaign routine.
