“Children are not taught proper etiquette in school and this is what finishing schools teach,” said a parent.
School of Success is one such place that has been preparing students for taking up leadership roles for many years now. “We have to change with the changing times. These days it is important for children to learn to deal with failures. They need to learn to take it in their stride. At School of Success we make children understand this important life lesson,” says Deepa Athreya, founder of School of Success, where children are encouraged to participate in various innovative activities. “Students tell their stories through short films that they work on. We conduct campaigns where they are allowed to freely voice out their concerns regarding social issues,” she says.
Future Success is another finishing school that conducts more than 10 activities for students. “We provide a complete package for kids above the age of four. The activities include dancing, etiquette training, yoga, body language, grooming and so on. We have one-hour sessions for them from April 24 and make them understand some life lessons,” says Mansoor Ahmed, founder of Future Success. He also added that they have special camps for parents to understand children better.
Schools like the Doon School has announced Residential ‘Summer @ Doon Leadership Programme’, which is open to all aspiring girls and boys in grades 9-12 who are passionate about making a positive impact in the world around them.
Parents too feel that it is important for children to attend such workshops. “Most of the time school is all about scores. Thy learn from books but as adults we know that there is much more to life than books. I send my child to a finishing school where he is taught to form informed opinions, consider every member in the team and take decisions accordingly. He is also taught to be socially aware and to make an impact in the society,” said Chandralekha Jain, a resident of Anna Nagar.
