Since entering K’Town, lyricist Arunraja Kamaraj has written several songs that have won him acclaim. In 2016, his song Neruppu Da from Rajnikanth’s Kabali pushed him to stardom.
Says Arun, “It is about a lyricist who is struggling to write. However, once he meets a singer in a studio, the words flow into his mind.” Arun notes that he had initially planned to shoot a series of six songs for an album. “Each song was supposed to show various stages of relationship between the lyricist and singer who eventually fall in love. However, the lockdown forced us to think of other methods as we couldn’t shoot. Eventually, we settled on a story-boarding concept.”
Arun explains that he gave his team a few storyboards of the song as reference material and asked them to animate the video, instructing them to set the characters within a studio. As Kannakkuzhi Azhagey
plays, the lyrics fade in and out and the illustrated characters speak to one another via speech bubbles.“Ranjit Kumar Rajendran made the lyrical video during the lockdown days while the artwork was done by Divya Ganesan,” he says.
Arun informs that his team is planning to work on other songs soon. “Kannakkuzhi Azhagey is the first project we have worked on through my company ARK Entertainment and I am happy with the result. I am working on a script and hope to make a film once everything gets back to normal,” he sums up.
