In April, director Atlee was accused of plagiarism yet again after Theri and Mersal. An aspiring filmmaker named KP Selvah sought the help of Writers’ Union, who couldn’t take up the case as he was a member for less than six months. Later, he approached Chennai City Civil Court and sought an injunction against the shooting of the film. The civil court over the weekend dismissed the case and ordered that the complainant cannot file a fresh suit as there was no cause of action in the first place to file such a case. While Selva said that he would approach the Madras High Court and file a fresh case, Civil court denied him the permission for that as well. “In times, when almost all of the big movies face plagiarism issues, this verdict rings out a strong warning bell to all who attempt to hog limelight using such big movies and stars (sic),” the makers said in a statement.
Bigil, directed by Atlee, is a sports drama that stars Vijay in dual roles. A couple of days ago a single track titled Verithanam, crooned by actor Vijay, was leaked online. While Nayanthara plays the leading lady, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Vivek, Daniel Balaji, etc are also part of the cast. The movie’s music has been composed by AR Rahman and it is produced by AGS Entertainment.
