A few weeks ago, ardent fans of Vadivelu brought him back to the limelight by trending one of his popular comic characters on Twitter. Now, it looks like, the comedian has found himself in the midst of a controversy, after his remarks on the filmmakers with whom he earlier worked with.
Naveen of Moodar Koodam fame was one of the first to condemn the actor on his social media page. He wrote, “I have admired your acting talent. You are a genius, but only as an actor. You can make a good comedy track but can’t write a script. Don’t be so arrogant. If you are the reason behind the success of Imsai Arasan then why your other big-budget films as hero have turned out badly.” (sic) Venkat Prabhu, too, lent his support to his former AD, Chimbu Deven and said, “A director is the captain of the ship. If a film turns out to be a success, we celebrate as the success belongs to everyone. But, if it fails, many say ‘it’s the director’s fault.’ It is disheartening to see an actor pass such comments against the creators who gave him blockbusters. I am closely working with Chimbu Deven and I know a lot about him. More than a filmmaker, he is a good human being. No need to speak about Shankar sir, too. We are all here to make each other happy. Let’s not hate each other. Spread love.” Even Samuthirakani and Suseenthiran have criticised Vadivelu for his insensitive comments. However, Vadivelu is yet to react on this issue.
