International Conference of Diabetic Foot Society was inaugurated in the city on Friday with doctors and experts discussing preventive care and other methods in diabetic foot care.

Chennai: The conference, themed ‘Healing Wounds, Preventing Amputations,’ aims to bring together specialities to a single platform to discuss newer technologies, medical innovations and exciting advancements in the diabetic foot care.
The three-day virtual conference was inaugurated by Dr Preetha Reddy, vice-chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Group and it will have around 4,000 members and 25 international faculties from all over the world, including the USA, the UK, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea and Tanzania.
The organiser of the conference, Dr VB Narayanamurthy, said the conference would be an eye-opener and helpful for non-specialist, general, family and nurses to battle diabetes-related amputations.
He added that trends and developments on diabetes research are the need of the hour and with the pandemic, diabetes has become an additional task.
Diabetologists discussed the biomechanics of diabetic foot during COVID-19, neuropathy for diabetic foot and strategies to prevent arterial insufficiency in case of diabetes foot. Diabetologists and healthcare experts stressed the need and scope of compression therapy for lymphedema as diabetes foot has become a common issue.
