'Thai' month Pradosh which falls on the time of crescent moon is regarded as the auspicious day to worship and seek blessings from Lord Shiva.
This auspicious occassion has fallen today.
Pradosh time is usually after sunset, from evening 4 pm to 6 pm. On this special day, Lord Nandi (sacred bull) is worshipped along with Lord Shiva to make all your wishes come true. Devotees whisper their wishes in Nandi's ears during this day. Lord Nandi will grant all our wishes on this day, sacrificing his meditation.
Pradosh is called in different names on different days of the week.
Sunday: Aadhi Pradosh
Monday: Somavaara Pradosh
Tuesday: Mangalavaara Pradosh
Wednesday: Budhavaara Pradosh
Thursday: Guruvaara Pradosh
Friday: Sukravaara Pradosh
Saturday: Sani Pradosh
On Sani Pradosh, devotees will take up fasting to free themselves from negative impacts caused by Sani Bhagavan.
Those who take up fasting on Pradosh times will not eat anything until 6 pm of the day. It is believed that 'Pradosh Vrat' will benefit them with good physical and mental health.
On Pradosh days, special poojas will be conducted to Lord Shiva. Special Abishegams using cow milk and coconut water will be done to Lord Shiva. Worshipping Lord Shiva on Pradosh days by offering him Thumbai or Vilva flowers will free the devotees from all their sins and doshas. It is believed that those who worship Lord Shiva as per the above ritual will be freed from Brahmahaththi dosha.
