Because only we can strive to elevate ourselves from being doers to performers; achieving a state of perfection where a mistake is no more a possibility.
As doers, there is a possibility that we commit mistakes. Even knowing what is right, one could still make a mistake because growth is impossible without mistakes. In fact, it is this way, humans make mistakes when they intend to grow. Whereas in case of animals or any other living or non-living beings; there is no possibility of a mistake as there is no possibility of growth. A lion, a tree can never commit a mistake and neither can they ‘grow’ in their performance; their actions are consistent and unfailing.
Think of Thomas Alva Edison’s beautiful quote, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”.
The ten thousand times things didn’t work were not his failures but mistakes which helped him achieve a permanent and unfailing pattern and success. An example from the mythologies also tells us the same thing; When Dronacharya taught his pupils to wield weapons he said, ‘One can improve his skill only if he has the courage to make mistakes.’
Not just for Edison and Dronacharya’s pupils but for every human being; mistakes are not failures but the resource to achieve a state of an unfailing pattern and success. They are the evidence and the foundation for miraculous growth.
It is however important for one to understand the difference between a mistake and a sin. A mistake always happens in action.
When a mistake occurs when a person is involved in the right action with his complete interest and consciousness; there is a natural correction that happens too.
This marvel can only be experienced, not explained. And what is sin then? Sin isn’t only involvement in the wrong action; it is also not doing the action one knows he is supposed to do.
As humans, never worry about making mistakes.
In fact, one should have the courage to make mistakes. But what is important is not to repeat the same mistake again. This one principle will help you to have good fortunes and do away with misfortunes forever.
Wishing you a life of abundance in peace, health and happiness. Aham Brahmasmi!!
