Tamil cinema fans cursed their lack of taste for films as they didn't recognise Aayirathil Oruvan in 2009 starring Karthi, Reema Sen, Andrea Jeremiah and Parthiepan. However, the film later gained a cult status and request for a part two followed ever since.
The genre of the film is historical-fantasy, where a research team takes off to Thailand in search of the last people of Chola kingdom who are at present impoverished. The protagonist later learning the team he accompanied with has ulterior motives, turns against them to side with the Chola populace.
The second part is set for a 2024 release, which may well continue with whether the protagonist is able to make Chola Kingdom thrive once again. Songs and background score are the major factors that worked for the 2009-film, though Yuvan Shankar Raja is the go-to music composer of Selva, it is expected he will go for GV Prakash to replicate the magic of part one in part two.
Earlier in the day the director posted a picture with Yuvan announcing their collaboration for a film starring Dhanush bankrolled by Kalaipuli Thanu. While some say it is the second part of Pudhupettai, others said it to be a fresh one.
