Good news for Vijay fans is Sarkar is now free from legal hurdles and will hit the screens as planned for Deepavali. While writer Varun Rajendran fought a legal battle against Murugadoss-Vijay’s Sarkar the issue was settled at the Madras High Court on Tuesday. The issue was resolved after Murugadoss assured that Varun will get his due credit in Sarkar. In a video message, Murugadoss said, “Bhagyaraj told me that Varun had written a similar story 10 years ago and titled it Sengol . However, Bhagyaraj also admitted that, Sarkar is entirely different from Sengol. He requested me to carry Varun’s name in the title card appreciating and encouraging for registering a movie with the same theme. We have agreed. Apart from this, Sarkar is AR Murugadoss’ product.”
When we contacted Varun Rajendran, he said, “A few agreements were made, which I cannot reveal at this point in time. The judgement copy will be out on Wednesday and I will comment on the issue once I receive it.” Murugadoss also released a written statement and lauded Varun Rajendran for having imagined a theme like Sarkar 10 years ago. He also lauded the Writer’s Union for identifying a talent like Varun. Certified U/A, Sarkar has already been sold and has done a tremendous business in south India and overseas. Sarkar stars Vijay, Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Radha Ravi, Pazha Karuppaiah and Yogi Babu. AR Rahman has composed the film’s music.
