I am comfortable with my body and I know the skills that I have. Now that I have a lot of time in hand, I thought I can convey a message to the public that every individual is different and unique in their way. Since fashion is something I love, I decided to recreate a few iconic looks of actors from the Indian film industry. I thought of putting one look on social media, but slowly, people started asking me to post more pictures,” says Harshaa, a fashion designerstylist from Chennai.
She selects the looks randomly. “While recreating any look I make sure that I have the right costume and jewellery. Sometimes, I customise the costumes. Also, I don’t go for looks that have heavy make-ups. I am not a make-up artist. After the pictures were widely shared on social media, local brands got in touch with me asking if I could support them. So, I have started collaborating with some local brands as well,” reveals the stylist who has worked with Aishwarya Rajesh, Kasthuri, Sanam Shetty to name a few.
All the recreation pictures had been taken by Harshaa’s brother Harsh Vardhan on his phone. When quizzed about the toughest look that she had to recreate, the 25-year-old designer says, “It would be Manisha Koirala’s look — she had a bangs haircut and it was something tough to recreate. People thought I used a wig, but I recreated the look with my hair only. Even for actor Rekha’s short hair look, I didn’t use a wig,” she chuckles.
Though Harshaa started the series to give back to cyberbullies, she got a lot of negative comments for the series. “No matter what I do, a few people keep giving offensive comments. Now, I started ignoring such comments and statements,” Harshaa says.
