While exfoliating seems as simple as scrubbing for your face with an exfoliator, knowing how to pick the right products that are not harsh on your skin, as well as using them the correct way makes all the difference. With the summer heat hitting its peaks gradually, your skin is getting just as uncomfortable as you are with the climate, pollution and all the dust it is exposed to.
Pick a product that suits your skin
There may be thousands of products being launched into the market every day, but not each one is meant for your skin. It is extremely important to understand your skin type and choose a product which suits it the best. It is essential to read the contents of the product so that it further benefits your skin. For instance, if your skin dries out fast, pick a gentle exfoliator that is free from sulfates to further avoid loss of moisture.
Most of us don’t pay attention to this step and take it casually. We tend to apply the product on moist skin. Skin experts, however, stress that you apply it on clean and dry skin. If the product chosen is not too abrasive, there should be no pain caused to you when applied even on a dry skin.
Massage your skin
While most of us just wash off the exfoliator soon after using it on the face, the trick lies in massaging your skin with it, note beauty gurus. After you’ve applied the product on the skin, rinse your fingers, make them wet and massage the face scrub on your skin for a good 10-15 minutes. This massage is particularly important in removing the dead skin cells.
After you’re done massaging, rinse your face with water and take off all the face scrub. Make sure you use water is cold or lukewarm but not hot so as to avoid aggravating your skin.
Moisturise your skin
Once you are done rinsing off the exfoliator, there’s a special trick to get that most of us forget and simply wipe the face off with a towel. Instead, while your face is still wet slather your favourite moisturiser and let it sit on your face for a while. This step helps in soothing your skin and giving back its moisture.
Since your skin is fresh and all the pores are open it is extremely important for you to take care of your skin when heading out. Apart from applying the moisturiser, it is important for you to apply a sunscreen with a good SPF too. Dab on the sunscreen every few hours if you are out for a long time out in the sun, which is a technique popular even in Korean beauty.
