Manoj Srinivasan, an IIM graduate could have gone on to earn a remuneration of Rs. 60 lakh per annum and settle in his cushy job. Instead, he decided to follow his heart and pursue his passion, photography. “I graduated with an enviable offer letter from a popular multinational company.
I thought I would eventually like the job. But I started hating the monotony that came with it. To make things exciting outside work, I started clicking pictures.
Over time, I realised that photography is what I truly enjoyed,” begins Manoj. Later, after quitting his job, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in photography at a university in Derby. “From wedding photography to candid shots, I tried my hand at everything. But then I decided that I had to do something unconventional to stand out. That’s when I started doing theme-based shoots,” he adds.
As testimony to his word, Manoj has come out with an interesting series of photographs for Valentine’s Day. The series depicts the transition in the expression of love over time from 80s to present day, through three couples, set against the respective colour tones of each time period. “Dating, over the years has changed a lot. Couples from the 80s didn’t communicate through phone and somehow met and lived in the moment.
They met at beaches and parks and were lost in each other’s eyes. It was such a sight. In the 90s they communicated with each other via landline and met. The present day couples communicate only on mobile phones.
Even if they meet up for coffee, they still get busy with their mobile. I have narrated and conveyed these through my photography,” he explains. While Mubashir, Divya, Aniruth, Suruthi, Jitesh and Vinaya are the models, the costumes that have been designed to suit the corresponding age they represent, are by the Uniquely Me team, while the shoot was produced by Swaminathan.
