Imsai Arasan 2
The sequel to Vadivelu-starrer historic comedy drama Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi , which is being directed by Chimbudevan went on floors in August. After playing comic roles for a while, Vadivelu will return in the title role in Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi. The story is set 50 years ahead of the first part. The movie will take us to the period of Pulikesi’s grandfather whose story will be the central theme. Vadivelu will play the lead role once again. To be made on a grand scale and budget, the film is being jointly bankrolled by filmmaker Shankar and Lyca Productions. Parvathy Omanakuttan is paired with Vadivelu in the film, which will have music by Ghibran.
We had earlier reported that Sundar C will be shooting the sequel to his blockbuster comedy Kalakalappu. The latest is that Kalakal appu 2 is being shot in Kasi with Jiiva, Jai, Catherine Tresa and Nikki Galrani in lead roles. The makers are eyeing a Pongal release. While Vijay Ebenezer scored the music for the first part, the second part will have music by Hip Hop Tamizha. Sundar’s home production Avni movies is producing the sequel. After wrapping up Kalakalappu 2 , Sundar will start working on his dream project Sangamithra.
The film is the sequel to Vishal’s 2005 blockbuster Sandakozhi. Being directed by Lingusamy, the film has Vishal Krishna playing the lead while Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be seen as the antagonist. Meera Jasmine who played the leading lady and is on a sabbatical post marriage, might return to do a cameo in this film, which will have a simultaneous dubbed release. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in to compose music. The movie is being shot in Chennai on a 40-day schedule and will be wrapped up in the first week of December.
Thiruttu Payale 2
The sequel to the 2006 release Thirut tupayale has gone on to become one of the most anticipated films of the year post the release of its teaser last month. The original film, which had Jeevan, Sonia Agarwal and Abbas in the lead went on to become a big hit 11 years ago. The sequel is all set to release on December 1. Director Susi Ganesan said, “The core story of the film is the same though. When someone catches a person red-handed with an evidence, the person becomes his/her slave. The sequel too is focussed on the same but has the same new flavour to it.” The sequel, a ‘family entertainer’ stars Amala Paul, Bobby Simha and Prasanna in the lead roles. The film will show Amala in a never-seen-before avatar as the actor has upped the glam quotient quite considerably to suit her character.
Sathurangavettai, a heist thriller, went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2014. Directed by H Vinodh, the film had Natty Subramaniam playing the lead. So, the sequel was quite expected. However, the cast and crew for Sathurangavettai 2 is totally revamped. The movie which is being directed by Nirmal Kumar has Arvind Swamy and Trisha Krishnan playing lead roles. Arvind Swamy plays a conman who does anything for money and has no qualms about it. But, he is no ordinary conman, said the actor.
The film will see the return of Vikram as a gritty cop in which the actor reunites with director Hari. The movie is being shot in Yercaud and will shift to Delhi, Mussoorie, followed by Nepal. Keerthy Suresh is playing the leading lady, while Trisha who was initially supposed to reprise her role from the first installment, walked out of the project. The movie is being bankrolled by Shibu Thameens and has music by Devi Sri Prasad and will release in April next year. In the first film, Vikram played a no-nonsense police officer, who doesn’t mind bending the rules so long, it helps him to serve the people without political intervention. Trisha played his wife in the film. It was also one of Trisha’s first commercial successes.
Produced by Prabhudheva, Bogan was the first blockbuster of 2017. Directed by Lakshman, the film had Jayam Ravi, Arvind Swamy and Hansika in lead roles. The director revealed that the film will definitely have a sequel which will go on floors after Jayam Ravi completes Sangamithra. Lakshman also said that the movie will have a stronger script than Bogan .
Maari 2 and Pudupettai 2
After Vellai Illa Pat tadhari 2, Dhanush is on a sequel spree. He will be next seen in Maari 2 directed by Balaji Mohan, and Pudhupettai 2 to be directed by Selvaraghavan. Director Balaji Mohan said, “Directing Maari 2 is certainly a huge responsibility considering how the first part established the film as a brand. Be it Dhanush’s look or the dialogues or the scenes, it created a strong impression among the audience. So, a lot of thought has gone into the kind of feedback we received for Maari. We’ve done away with the portions that had come under criticism and the audience didn’t like. Talking about Pudhupettai 2, Dhanush said, “The movie is on the cards. Selva and I have discussed it and we will come up with an announcement next year.” While Maari established Dhanush as a mass hero, Pudhupettai is still considered one of his best performances. The film also garnered critical acclaim for its offbeat scritp and direction.
Shankar’s 2.0 is the sequel to the 2010 film Enthiran , and features Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. The movie made on a budget of Rs 450 crore, recently had its grand audio launch in Dubai. The film is expected to release in April. Talking about the film, Shankar said, “We have incorporated a global message which is the need of the hour. The film features a few familiar characters from Enthiran. Rajini sir has gone all out for this film. Even while undergoing treatment, Rajini sir shot in the blistering summer heat of Delhi, wearing a 12 kg suit and I really need to thank him from the bottom of my heart.” Rajini also shared some details about the film and said, “I should be thankful to Shankar and R Subashkaran for having cast me in this prestigious project. It is really going to be India’s best film. After the release of the film, people not only in India, but people abroad will also appreciate it. I have the confidence.
Indian 2 and Vishwaroopam 2
Kamal Haasan has joined hands with ace-filmmaker Shankar after a gap of more than 20 years to make a sequel to their 1996 blockbuster Indian that won Kamal a National Award. The film will reportedly be made on a whopping budget of Rs 180 crore, which will be bankrolled by Tollywood’s popular film Dil Raju. Indian 2 is a bilingual film that will be made in Tamil and Telugu, while it will be dubbed into other languages. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 that has been languishing in post production is also likely to hit the screens, early next year.
