For nine consecutive years, Kiruba attempted to write a book but “miserably failed as an author”. However, things changed for the better, after a conversation he had with a wise old man. That one meeting helped him overcome his hurdles and today, he has five books to his credit. “This is a book that has very effective writing tips from global best-selling authors. These are practical tips that first-time authors can instantly pick up and apply to their work,” begins Kiruba, who has diverse interests and has started multiple entrepreneurship ventures in various fields. Apart from social media consultancy, digital marketing and podcasting, his passion for agriculture led him to start his own organic farm, Vaksana Farms.
In his book published by Notion Press, he has chronicled interviews with authors like Reshmi Bansal, David Allen and successful stories of Stephen King, Nicholas Sparks and Jeffrey Archer. Various sections of this book such as ‘Plan your book’, ‘Write directly to your readers’, ‘How to handle rejection,’ etc., provide insights into the different aspects related to book writing and publishing. However, it wasn’t an easy task to put together works of such illustrious names. “The biggest challenge was reaching and getting responses from hugely popular international authors. They are quite busy and I had to convince them that this was a project worth spending their time on,” he recalls.
The book has also been a great learning process for Kiruba himself. “The biggest benefit from this project is that it gave me the perfect excuse to reach out to renowned authors. There are two experiences that stand out for me. One, the discussion I had with David Allen, the author of Getting Things Done . He mentioned that writing things down is a great way to let those ideas sink in. The other is with our own Indian writer, Ashwin Sanghi. He was rejected over 49 times before finding success. His is an amazing story of determination and perseverance,” adds Kiruba, who also holds The First Book Podcast, an extension of the First Book , in which one can listen to the authors talk about their inspiring journeys in their own words. The author has also penned Copy Right and Left, Wikipedia, #crowdsourcing and Unconference.
The success of his books has also given Kiruba the impetus to explore further. “My ambitious goal is to author two books every year for the next 20 years — to launch a book every June and December. My next book is titled, Farm Fresh Life, which is based on my experiences of starting and growing an organic farm,” he concludes.
