With over 5,000 songs to her name, Pop Shalini was a known name in Kollywood even as a teenager. Not one to rest on her laurels or take her success for granted, the singer has explored avenues beyond playback singing by setting up her own production house Tinsel Rangi Productions.
It focusses on bringing music, dance and drama through thought-provoking stories, music and dance sequences in extravagant settings. After the success of her first musical, The Broadway Express, in November 2016, her team is all set to stage their second on February 11 in the city. “Titled Adi and Ashi’s Indian Adventure, I have written the play and directed it.
The musical will see the participation of 100 kids. It also includes Suriya and Jyotika’s children Diya and Dev, and Harris Jayaraj and Suma’s kids Samuel Nicholas and Keren. My son Adi is a part of this event as well,” says Shalini.
“The story is about how two kids stop a man from doing an evil deed. The narrative travels through the country and we have covered the cultures and sensibilities of 10 states, also including, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Rajasthan and Punjab. The main idea is to let kids, who are very disconnected from our country’s past, to know its cultural and traditional value,” adds Shalini.
Talking about the road ahead, she says, “A few schools from abroad have already approached us asking if we can take it to their country as well. I am overwhelmed by the response and we will come up with musicals for schoolchildren and for the NRI kids who want to learn about their country,” she finishes. Adi and Ashi’s Indian adventure will be staged at Mutha Venkata Subba Rao Hall on February 11.
